History
The history of the Centre of Education Research of TTU starts from February 10, when by the Decree of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education a research group for the studies of the economy of higher educational institute at the Faculty of Economics at Tallinn Technical Institute was formed. In 1987 the research group was replaced by the laboratory of economics of higher educational institutes and in 1992 by a research group of educational policy. In 1995 the unit was converted into the Centre of Education Research in the Domain of the Humanities.

According to the statute, the function of the Centre is to carry out educational research, however via its members the Centre has also carried out tuition. Formerly tuition was mostly Master and Doctorial studies. From January 1, 1999 the Chair of Educational Policy was set up. The latter helped to expand carrying out educational courses to Bachelor students and further training and counselling for those being involved in educational field. Courses concerning education (educational policy, educational economics and management of educational system) are carried out via Bachelor, Master and Doctorial students.

Research having been carried out during the years is varied, involving planning of education, economy, statistics, organisational and legal problems. In recent years relations between education and economy, disproportions between education and labour market system, projected threats due to the weaknesses of educational system of Estonian society have been researched.
